Dielectric Constant and Density of Water as a Function of Pressure at Constant Temperature
In order to simulate the effects of hydrostatic pressure on protein folding/unfolding it is necessary to accurately describe the behavior of the dielectric constant and the density of the solvent (water), in the range of pressures (between 0.1 MPa and 2.0 GPa) and temperatures (below 75 ̊ C) required for pressure-induced unfolding. A simple equation of the form X = X (T, Pi) + a0 ln (ai+ P)/(ai ...
متن کاملA Convergent Incremental Gradient Method with a Constant Step Size
Abstract. An incremental gradient method for minimizing a sum of continuously differentiable functions is presented. The method requires a single gradient evaluation per iteration and uses a constant step size. For the case that the gradient is bounded and Lipschitz continuous, we show that the method visits regions in which the gradient is small infinitely often. Under certain unimodality assu...
متن کاملstress analysis of rotational shaft with a constant angular speed using strain gradient theory
in classical mechanics, considering hook’s law stress is a linear function of strain. while in strain gradient theory stress is a function of strain and strain differentials. in this paper, novel formulation relating stress and strain and also new boundary conditions are derived based on minimum potential energy principle. in strain gradient theory a length coefficient parameter is defined. thi...
متن کاملConvergence diagnostics for stochastic gradient descent with constant step size
Iterative procedures in stochastic optimization are typically comprised of a transient phase and a stationary phase. During the transient phase the procedure converges towards a region of interest, and during the stationary phase the procedure oscillates in a convergence region, commonly around a single point. In this paper, we develop a statistical diagnostic test to detect such phase transiti...
متن کاملA Bernoulli problem with non constant gradient boundary constraint
We present in this paper a result about existence and convexity of solutions to a free boundary problem of Bernoulli type, with non constant gradient boundary constraint depending on the outer unit normal. In particular we prove that, in the convex case, the existence of a subsolution guarantees the existence of a classical solution, which is proved to be convex.
